My time in Madagascar was filled with excitement and adventure right from the start. My three week experience with Frontier was of the best volunteer programs that I have ever undertaken.

I first understood their commitment to each individual, when my plane was unfortunately delayed for half a day and despite not being able to contact staff, I was greeted with the welcoming smile of the community coordinator. Needless to say, I immediately felt at home in an unfamiliar country.

During my three week healthcare placement, activities ranged from teaching children the importance of hand hygiene to visiting a local polio orphanage. In the evenings, the team led the community youth club, where we were able to raise malaria and sexual health awareness. Additionally, we constructed a safe water solution at the primary school, and although it was initially used as a soccer ball cleaning machine, the children later loved its anticipated function.

My time with Frontier passed by too quickly. Though I did explore Madagascar for a month after my placement, whenever I ventured back into town, I was quickly looked after by Frontier staff and volunteers. The friends who I have made will forever remain irreplaceable, whilst my Malagasy experiences have helped shape my broader world perspective. A warm thank you to all at Frontier Madagascar and I am sure that you will continue your inspiring work.
